Our Classrooms

Montessori School of Hacienda Heights

Infant Class

Ages 6 weeks - 24 months

Follow the Child...

The infant program at Montessori School of Hacienda Heights is unique. We serve children from 6 weeks of age to 24 months. As a Montessori school, we offer more than just daycare for our infants. In our infant classrooms, we stimulate the child’s curiosity and encourage them to explore and discover in a safe environment. The low child-teacher ratio gives each child the space to develop.

We provide a physical space that meets the child’s sensitive language, movement, and order periods. We also offer an atmosphere of peace and respect. It allows infants to explore and learn by being:

  • Physically safe

  • Appropriately stimulating

  • Cognitively challenging

  • Emotionally nurturing

These years are crucial for setting the foundation for later learning, as the children absorb so much information from their environment during this phase. As infants’ interest in communication and movement grows, they seek a broader background for stimulation and become ready to join our Toddler community.

Transitioning Class

Ages 2 years- 3 1/2 years

Exploration and curiosity...

The toddler years are a time of exploration and curiosity. It is when children use their bodies, senses, and emerging problem-solving skills to make sense of their world. The environment has age-appropriate materials, and exercises encourage each child’s natural curiosity and enthusiasm. Toddler learning is on play and learning activities using Montessori materials. We focus on these vital developmental areas:

  • Sensory and perceptual development

  • Self-help skills

  • Physical and motor skills

  • Social and emotional growth

  • Language skills

  • Potty Training

They will participate in group and individualized lessons to prepare them for the routine of the Primary level. We have a variety of schedules available to Toddlers. Refer to our application for further details.

Primary Montessori

Ages 3 years - 4 years

In our Primary Montessori classroom, the environment dedicates to nurturing a child’s inherent curiosity by enabling children to explore and discover. Our classrooms and materials stimulate the child’s senses and respond to the preschool child’s need for order within the world.

Program Goals

  • Improve concentration

  • Establish a work cycle

  • Master coordination and movement

  • Understand social relationships

  • Become independent and care for the self

  • Develop language, phonic recognition, and pre-writing skills

  • Recognition of numerals, associate quantities with symbols

Under the guidance of a trained teacher, children in a Montessori preschool classroom learn by making discoveries with the materials, cultivating concentration, motivation, self-discipline, and a love of learning. In this Montessori setting, children develop a strong sense of respect for themselves, others, and their environment.

Pre-Kindergarten Class

Ages 4 years - 5 years

At Montessori School of Hacienda Heights, we strive to create a unique and individualized educational experience for each child in our Program, which brings the best of both Montessori and traditional teaching methods into the classroom. A four-year-old in a Pre-K classroom is an independent, dependable member of the classroom community. They start taking on leadership roles. They are learning to be sympathetic and empathetic, to wait their turn, to work and play cooperatively, and to express their needs and feelings positively. At this age, they become intensely interested in more challenging academic work, and with hands-on learning and exploration, they naturally absorb skills and educational concepts, satisfying their innate curiosity and joy for learning. They are also more self-directed and independent learners. We “foster a love of learning” in each child and help them think critically and creatively about the world around them.

Program Goals

  • Make Learning Joyful

  • Grow Self Confident Children

  • Encourage Curiosity

  • Set Children up for Educational Success

  • Establish “Can Do” Attitudes

Kindergarten Class

Ages 5 years - 6 years

The Kindergarten Program, for children ages 5 to 6, is an extension of the Primary Program and a transition to the Elementary Program. Our Kindergarten program is from 9:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Monday through Friday, and they refine their writing skills, progress from addition and subtraction to multiplication and division, and move from simple reading to more complex material, all at the child's own pace and in keeping with each child's interests. At this stage of the child's educational development, the student can work with the resources more deeply. Therefore they can advance more perception from experience and improve their abilities. Once the student forms precarious learning customs such as self-discipline, a sense of instruction, attentiveness, imaginative creativity, perseverance in carrying out an assignment, and passion for learning – these actions secure in a reassuring and stimulating atmosphere. This year brings to fruition the development and mastery of so many skills and provides students with numerous opportunities to apply these skills in meaningful ways. They have more interests and passions to pursue, often leading to more profound, more thoughtful questions and self-directed learning. They are moving from concrete to more complex abstract concepts.
